Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish, or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, sour cream, and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs, mashed bananas, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. If you’re adding walnuts, fold them in gently.
Baking
  1. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  2. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (but moist).
  3. Let the brownies cool in the pan on a wire rack.
Frosting
  1. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, cooking until it turns a light golden brown and emits a nutty aroma (about 4–5 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and spreadable.
Serving
  1. Once the brownies are completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top.
  2. Cut into squares or bars and serve to your friends and family.

Notes

To make these brownies vegan, replace the eggs with flax eggs (1 tablespoon ground flaxseed mixed with 2.5 tablespoons of water per egg) and use plant-based yogurt for the sour cream. For a gluten-free option, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.
